Black Girls Hike : Nature Festival

Join us for our first ever Black Girls Hike: Nature Festival on Saturday 23rd September from 12pm-6pm at Platt Fields Market Garden, Manchester.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear about Nature, the Outdoors, Wellbeing, Safety and Clothing from a variety of speakers from 15:00 including our CEO Rhiane Fatinikun, Duke of Edinburgh, Craghoppers & Sweaty Betty Foundation. It will be supported by Lord Mayor Yasmine Dar.

There will be fun free activities to try including:

  • Bushcraft with @woodland_ways_bushcraft, learn introductory methods to fire lighting and about natural methods of friction.

  • Pottery Workshop with @megbeamishpottery and have-a-go on the potters wheel, participants can take home an unfired clay pot

  • Art Workshop with @creative_encounters_ltd and design and paint your own postcard

  • Ever wanted to be a DJ, well you can! Here you can learn what it takes to be a DJ with @djmelloofficial

  • Join Stitched Up @stitchedupcoop 12:00 -15:00 for a drop in upcycled purse making workshop.

  • Using reclaimed materials donated by the community of Greater Manchester to develop hand sewing skills to design, embellish and complete your own simple purse pouch.

  • How do I pitch a tent and what outdoor gear do I need? with @nacrooutdoorlearning

  • We also have a mindful reflective space for quiet reflection and Yoga with @kaceao

  • A Platt Fields nature walk (with trees and other interesting things we might find on the way) including a tree ID game with plant sounds with @cityoftreesmcr

  • Dance sessions with @jetblackdance

  • We even have activities for the younger members of your family:

  • Bouncy Castles from @astarbouncycastle

  • Facepainting by @sistaspaintingfaces

  • Craft activities with @one_manchester/

  • Balance Bike Ride with @beepedalready for young children from 4 upwards. They would ride around on a balance bike, with a trail that they can follow. Great for young kids starting their journey into cycling.
